The objective of this research was to study the inheritance of resistance to benomyl in V. inaequalis, the apple scab pathogen. Progeny from crosses among a resistant (104) and three susceptible strains (101, 147 and 163) where grown in malta agar with 0.5 and 10 ppm of benomyl to evaluate their suscepti- bility to the fungicide. Pseudothecia were obtained on apple leaf discks placed on water agar plate, inoculated with two V. inaequalis strains,incubated for 21 days at 18-20° C and then transfered to 8° C. Using this methodology, crosses produced pseudothecia within 140 days. Inheritance of resistance to benomyl based on 160 monosporic isolates was monogenic as determined by the 1:1 segregation rate of this trait in examined progeny.
