Abstract

An in situ ruminal degradation trial was conducted to determine protein degradation of rations containing 40.0 (1), 50.0 (II) and 60.0 (III) degradable protein. The rations included as protein supplement fish meal, fish meal plus urea and soybean meal plus urea, and were isoproteic (11%) and isocaloric (83% TDN). Incubation times were 8, 12, 24 and 48 hr. Protein degradation of the three rations followed a linear trend. Ration III had the higher degradation at 48 hr (27.7%), followed by ration II with 25%, while ration I had the lower degradation with 17.0%. Ration I differ (P>0.05) from rations II and III, while rations II and III were not different (P<0.05). Eventhough, the results found are low, a trend of higher ruminal degradation values of rations containing feeds with high degra- dation as compared with rations containing feed with low degradation values.
