The objectives were to evaluate the physical and chemical changes of four differ ent soils, under the application of the slag and the acid urea and to evaluate the response, and yield, of tomato to the application of slag and acid urea, under greenhouse conditions. The investigation was carried out in two stages; in the first one, treatments were kept at field capacity by a period of 48 days. In the second stage it was performed a transplantation of 38 days old seedlings.
The design was a three by two irregular factorial one, lodged in a completely randomized design, with four repetitions for each type of ground. The used levels were: for slag 0, 2500, and 5000 kg ha-1, and for acid urea 0 and 500 kg ha-1. The evaluated variables on the ground were: Da, Ds, E, CC, PMP, pH, CE, MO, P, CIC, Ca, Mg, Na, K, Mn and Fe. The plant variables were; stem diameter at the 69th day, and at the end of the culture; height of plant at the 69th day and at the end of the culture; fresh weight, dry weight, size of fruit and yield. In the acid ground Treatment T2 (0 kg ha-1 of slag with 500 kg ha-1 of acid urea) obtained the greatest yield. In the sodic saline ground, Treatment T1 (0 kg ha-1 of slag with 0 kg ha-1 of acid urea) showed the greatest yield. For the calcareous ground, Treatment T5 (5000 kg ha-1 of slag with 0 kg ha-1 of acid urea) presented the greatest yield. The treatment that better yield presented for the organic ground was T6 (5000 (kg ha-1 of slag with 500 kg ha-1 of acid urea).
