The present study was designed to determine the incidence of F. verticillioides in four maize genotypes and to evaluate strains of Trichoderma as biocontrol under laboratory conditions. Asymptomatic maize seeds chosen at random were disinfected by immersion, sowed in green malachite agar culture medium and incubated at 28 ± 2 °C for two weeks. A completely randomized design with four replicates for each genotype (100 seeds per replicate) was used. Incidence of F. verticillioides was determined by counting the grains colonized by the fungus, expressed in percentage; also assessed strains of Tricho derma longibrachiatumT1 40, T. asperellum T11 and T. harzianum T1 4 in dual cultures against the pathogen. The following results were ob tained: in each case, the presence of F. verticillioides was detected in the four maize genotypes with different levels of incidence (p<0.01). Creole material showed the highest incidence (86.03%), followed by H520 (79.75%), mestizo (75.5%) and UAAAN-ISP-173 (72.07%). With the T. longibrachiatum T1 40 strain has been a 35.69% of F. verticillioi des inhibition, while with T. asperellum T11 it was 32.68% and T. harzia num T1 4 it was 32.61%. The results show that the three Trichoderma strains inhibited the development of the pathogen by contacting at the two and three days respectively.
