Abstract

Zea mays L. ssp mays, is distributed throughout the Mexican territory (Mera and Mapes, 2009), and is known as cultivated maize, corn is one of the most important crops in the world and agricultural species more diverse in Mexico. Entomopathogenic fungi, play an important role in biological pest control, due to its mode of action, ease of application and the ability to generate animal diseases under field conditions (Ignoffo, 1981; Alves, 1986). Laboratory tests and field tests were conducted. Different culture media for isolation of the fungus tested. Subsequently obtaining both pure and isolates the first procedure consisted of inoculating larvae 3rd instar obtained from a breeding stock laboratory Inoculation was performed as topical application, with a liquid at a concentration of 107 suspension were placed 200 grams of rice per bag, was sterilized in an autoclave at 121° C (15 pounds pressure) for 15 minutes in plastic bags, rice was inoculated with 15 ml of conidial suspension and allowed to incubate at 25° C for two weeks. a design randomized block with five treatments and four replications, each experimental unit consisted of four rows. For applications of treatments, 20 linear consecutive plants were considered furrow In phase laboratory test was established, they were compared means pda, pda + antibiotic, egg-agar, soy-agar, obtaining as best result means agar-soybean, as was the only sporulation occurred while on PDA were only mycelial growth in the remaining half no growth. In the field results in the germination tests strains, prior to the application we obtained for n = 400 conidia was obtained for NH03CT = 84% and C3 = 70% of germination. In all treatment there were highly significant differences variables for mortality and damage fungi infested plant, concluding that the strains used are a great alternative for handling Spodoptera frugiperda.
