Physiological quality of corn seed under the effect of detasseling and different population densities

The physiological quality of corn seeds, includes a set of desirable qualities that allow you to settle in field with healthy and vigorous seedlings. The physiological quality of maize seeds germination and vigor under the effect of the practice of detasseling (application without application) and different population densities (40,000, 50,000 and 60,000 plants/ha) was evaluated. By measuring the variables of normal seedlings (PN), abnormal seedlings (PA), seeds without germinating (GSS), average length plumule (LMP) and average length of radicle (LMR). A statistical analysis according to established experiment was performed. No significant differences between the application or absence of desespigue (P = 0.0715) and between the three population densities studied (P = 0.5407) in all the variables analyzed, or the estimated interaction (P = 0.3476) were observed, however, it was observed that in the PN variable in practice detasseling showed trends in the detasseling improves the quality of the seed, the one obtained 97.33% of normal seedlings. For interaction it was observed that the highest percentage of normal seedlings is plants per hectare in the density of 50,000, under practice detasseling with 99%. This trend is observed with the results of multiple correlation, in which, we note that seeds detassel batch without significant negative correlation was found in the interaction of the PN and PA variables (r = -0.8868 **), reflecting the germination capacity while the correlation between variables and LMP PA was significant and positive (r = 0.6272 *) where the force is reflected. The seeds of the lot without detassel, significant negative correlation was observed between the PN variable and the GSS (r = -0.8345 **) variable that reflected the germination capacity and also between the LMP variable with the LMR variable (r = 0.8321 **) where we see reflected the vigor of the seeds. The germination capacity and certain vigor in the seeds of the variety VS - 201 is considered within the percentages of germination and vigor as good physiological quality
