Abstract

In a context where food security and ecological balance are closely linked, soil forms the basis of global food production. However, this non-renewable resource faces various threats, including erosion. This phenomenon can be accelerated by human activities such as inadequate agricultural practices, deforestation and overgrazing, the consequences of which are increasingly visible in Mexican territory. The loss of topsoil reduces the ability to produce food, compromises biodiversity and decreases carbon storage, contributing to climate change. Faced with this problem, this article analyzes the factors that drive soil degradation and examines some strategies to mitigate it, such as conservation tillage and biofertilizers, in order to promote a more responsible and sustainable relationship between human activities and this fundamental resource.
