Abstract

The objectives of this study were: to determine the proportional effects of tall fescue (TF) Festuca arundinacea and perennial ryegrass (PR) Loliumperenne, in the mixture upon productivity; to identify the physiological and ecological processes, upon production, the study was conducted in the campus of the Agrarian University Antonio Narro (UAAAN). Due to the difference in the growing periods of both species, they were evaluated on the field, for the period spring-summer (S-S). The higher the proportion of the mixture of PR, the higher the biomass accumulation. For the period winter-spring (W-S), the proportion of the mixture with 75% of TF was the best one. The growth analysis carried out at the greenhouse showed that both TF and PR had differences in regard to production, due to unbalance of their assimilatory process, however when maturity began to take place, it tends to be compensated. We concluded that both species were compatible, thus we recommend the inclusion of higher proportions of TF in the seeding rate for the period W-S to promote forage production.
