Abstract

Sunflower is an alternative culture for forage production at the Comarca Lagunera (La Laguna Region) in México. The objective of this assay was to evaluate the effect of the planting pattern in sunflower dry matter production of (Helianthus annuus L.) for forage. Three planting patterns (arrangements) were designed: A1=0,76m, A2= 0,38m and A3= separated twin furrows from 0,20 m to 0,76 m, and genotypes SAN and SANE, of normal and dwarf bearing respectively. The experimental design was in randomized blocks with four replica tions in a split plot arrangement. The main plots were the planting patterns, and the sub-plots were the genotypes. Total dry matter (MS) was quantified in five samplings, with 15 day intervals as of the planting date (June 30) in three plants in full competition. The arrangements were significantly different in the production of dry matter in all the five samplings. A2 arrangement statistically surpassed arrangements A1 and A3 in the samplings with an oscillating average of 45 and 27 percent respectively. The genotype SAN surpassed the SANE one by 33 per cent.
