The importance of fruit cultive in the municipalities of Saltillo and Arteaga of Coahuila, where predominately are grown apples, walnuts, peaches and plums. With an objetive of diversification of fruit culture in this region, a program on grapes has been initiated in 1984 in order to study the adaptation of general genetic resources of grape varieties. From this material some cultivars have been identified for the manufacture of quality wine. This research is carried out with an objetive of establishing vine yards on medium and short term basis and for intensive cultivation of this species under the area covered by the Universidad Autonoma Agraria Antonio Narro.
A completely randomized block desing was utilized with 17 treatments and five replications with nine plants per variety and the materials were grown on bi- lateral cordon system. The following cultivars: Burger, Palomino, Zinfandel, Alicante Bouschet, Emerald Riesling and Grenache were indentified as most promising materials based on the date collected on certain parameters like: high yield production, tolerance to diseases and nutritional problems over a study of eight years in the environment and soil conditions of Buenavista.
