With the aim of studying the effect of plant height and the duration of the vegetative and reproductive stages on the composition of the grain yield of the macaroon wheat (Triticum turgidum L var. turgidum), four groups of lines contrasting in height and precocity were evaluated under precocious, tardy, highly precocious and highly tardy. A field assay was made to evaluate the relation of the characters: hectoliter weight, weight of one thousand grains, plant height, days to flowering and days to flowering with the yield, by means of an analysis of variance, the correlation analysis, and the path coefficients. The results revealed that the precocious groups accumulated a greater grain yield, in comparison to the tardy groups and that there was no difference between the height groups. On the other hand the variables height of plant, days to flowering and maturity, hectoliter weight and weight of one thousand grains, were correlated with the yield in a positive and signifi cant way; nevertheless, their analytical decomposition through coefficients of variable path showed that the hectoliter weight, weight of one thousand grains and days to flowering, were those that contributed the most to the grain yield in the groups under precocious, tardy and highly tardy. In general, the variables that contributed the most to the grain yield in most of the evaluated groups were hectoliter weight and weight of one thousand grains.
