Validation of the EPIC model, to simulate the measuring of some agronomic traits in maize under different conditions of soil moisture. This assay was performed in order to evaluate the prediction capacity of the EPIC model proposed by Williams et al. (1984) to predict leaf area index, dry matter and nitrogen accumulation and grain yield of maize under three different soil moisture conditions or treatments. The simulation results indicated that the model simulated correctly the leaf area index, and the dry matter accumulation deviations among the observed and the simulated values were found in a range of + 15%. As to the nitrogen accumulation and grain yield the deviations were out of the rank + 20% for nitrogen. For grain yield the model underestimated the yield in a rank between 35 to 50%.
