Relación entre rendimiento y sus componentes en maíz bajo condiciones de temporal

In this study twelve genotypes of maize were evaluated with main objective of studying the relation between yield and its components and to estimate correlations for different pairs of variables.
The analysis of variance showed significant differences for all the characters studied such as: grain yield, prolificity, cob length, cob diameter, grain depth, 1 000 grain weight, grain percentage, plant height and number of leaves over the cob.
The maximum grain yield produced by the genotipe Michoacan 21 was 5 275.5 kg/ha, the hybrid AN310 and land race of this region produced more or less similar yields.
The grain yield was correlated positively and significantly with prolificity, cob length, cob diameter, seed weight, grain percentage, grain depth and plant height. Selection for these characters individually or combindly would increase total yield in maize.
