Relación entre fracciones de proteínas con la germinación, vigor y sanidad en semilla de maíz

Relation among protein fractions with germination, vigor and health in maize seed. The concentrations of zein, glutelin, albumen and globulin in whole seed, embryo and endosperm of nine maize genotypes were determined, with the purpose of studying the relations between the types, and the concentrations of proteins, with germination, vigor and health of the seed, before and after putting them under artificial aging. A completely randomized design with four repetitions was applied. The fractions of proteins were quantified by Lowry’s method of (1951). The relation between variables was studied by means of the analysis of main components. The results showed that all the genotypes, but G4, presented an infection by Fusarium moniliforme, which was positively related to the concentration of albumen, globulin and zein in whole seed, as well as with the abnormal appearance of plantules. Germination and vigor were positively related to the concentration of glutelin in the embryo, endosperm and whole grain. The vigor, determined by means of length of plumule and dry weight, was positively related to the concentrations of glutelin in endospero and zein in the embryo. The conclusion is that the presence of F. moniliforme in the seed, in most of the evaluated genotypes, affected its physiological quality, and the proliferation of the pathogen was positively related to the concentrations of albumen and globulin. Genotypes G1 and G3 showed the highest values of infection by F. moniliforme, which caused both a loss in germination and in vigor. The greater similarity in the evaluated characteristics was the one between the Genotypes G7 and G9 with relation to the G2, used like witness.
