In order to determine the optimun harvesting time for sorghum seeds (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) in the Northern locations of the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico, an experiment was run to evaluate three drying temperature levels on the quality of seeds. Samples of the crop were hand harvested at 15, 18, 21 and 27% moisture content. Seeds were dried under laboratory conditions at 39, 41 and 43°C (102, 106 and 110°F) using an air flaw of 3 m° min and a static pressure of 14 cm (5 inches of water); each seeds container was graded in three levels of deepness. Afterward seeds were stored for up to 120 days and assessed for germination capacity at storage time of 0, 60 and 120 days. The results indicated drying induction of secondary dormancy of seeds which was higher at 43°C and 21 and 27% moisture content. The dormancy was eluded after 60 storage days. According to these results it can be stated that harvesting sorghum seeds at 21% moisture content and artificially drying at 43°C temperature has no negative effects on seed germination.
