Abstract

This study was conducted in Campus Buenavista of Universidad Au tonoma Agraria Antonio Narro in Saltillo, Coahuila., Mexico from 12 December 2012 to 14 February 2013. The production and quality of milk (acidity, protein and fat), goat and kidgoat weight of Murciano Granadina goats fed wit hydroponic triticale replacing alfalfa hay at 0, 20 and 40% were evaluated. In all treatments 30% of concentrated food (Apileche®) was provided. A completely randomized experimental design was used, each treatment consisted of five goats (n=5). No differences (p>0.05) in milk production were found, but if (p<0.0001) in quality: the control had the highest acidity (2.05 °D), treatment with replacement of 20 and 40% hay alfalfa were statistically equal to 1.65 and 1.60 °D expressed 10%. There were also differences (p>0.05) in acidity relative to the sampling time: the first was the lowest with 1.60 °D, the second sample was 1.78 °D, the fourth 1.80 °D and third sampling 1.88 °D. The contents of protein and fat, and the weight of the goats showed no difference (p>0.05) between treatments. The kidgoat weight of the control showed the highest weight (p<0.001) during the test (10.03 kg), followed by treatment with supplementa tion of 40% alfalfa hay (8.85 kg), kidgoats fed with supplementation of 20% had the lowest weight (7.85 kg). The replacement of alfalfa by hydroponic triticale did not increase the production, nor the contents of protein and fat, but it affected the quality of milk by lowering the level of acidity.
