Effect of days to calving on reproductive performance of Charolais-cows, with restricted breeding season

In order to assess the effects of day delivery (PD) on the reproductive characteristics postpartum Charolais cows with management under extensive conditions and annual grazing in semiarid rangelands of northeastern Mexico, 1209 records of 351 cows that calved they were compared and weaned calf, which are grouped according to the DP into three groups, G1 (<310d), G2 (310-340d) and G3 (> 340D). It was used in a design completely random variance analysis with different number of repetitions (SAS, 1989). The model included the effects of year of birth and DP, on the days the breeding season (DE) days pregnancy (DPR), open days (DA), calving interval (IEP), and the date of the next delivery (FPS) and covariate age of cow at calving (EV). Significant (P <0.01) of the DP and EV on the DE and DPR was found. Cows with less DP (G1) had 26 and 52 days of delivery at the beginning of the breeding season and 18 and 36 days less to pregnancy cows of the G2 and G3 groups, respectively. An inverse relationship (P <0.01) between DP, DA and IEP was found. Also, a direct relationship with ED and DA. 94, 83 and 56% of cows G1, G2 and G3 groups returned to wean calf the following year. Therefore, it is concluded that cows with less DP have better reproductive performance and increased production of calves at weaning.
