In all producing areas of tomato in Mexico, an important limiting factor for production is the vascular wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici (Fol). The best alternative to control this disease is the use of resistant cultivars. Therefore, plant breeders need to identify resistance sources to incorporate them in new cultivars. The objec tive of this study was to evaluate 25 genetic materials for resistance to Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici races 2 and 3 from varieties grown in tomato fields in Villa de Arista, S.L.P., Mexico. Races identifi cation was made by pathogenicity tests on differential varieties I3R3, Walter, Manapal y Bony Best for Fol races. Six of the 25 genetic materials evaluated showed resistance to race 2, five to race 3, one to both races and 14, showed susceptibility to both races 2 and 3. To study the inheritance of resistance to race 3 there were used as resistance progenitor I3R3 y Solanum pimpinellifolium LA722 (86L9486) and as susceptible progenitors D6, D10, IR14, Manapal y Walter. F2 genera tions showed phenotypic proportions of simple inheritance having a proportion of 3 healthy plants to 1 diseased plant. Retrocrosses of F1 from resistant progenitors by susceptible progenitors to susceptible ones, showed in all cases a phenotypic segregating proportion of re sistant plants to susceptible plants of 1 to 1which according to tests in both cases resistance is controlled by a single dominant gene.
