Abstract

This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of egg yolk antibody of immunoglobulin Y chicken (IgY) and NuPro®, in the diet of growing lambs about their productive behavior, time consumption and carcass characteristics. Eight whole male Pelibuey lambs in growth stage were used. The diets were prepared with a ration based on sorghum and soybean meal plus treatments: no IgY and without NuPro (WOA/WON); with 0.125% of antibodies (WA/WON); with 4.0% of NuPro (WOA/WN) and (4) with 0.125% of antibody and 4.0% NuPro (WA/WN). Daily feed intake (DFI) was evaluated, daily weight gain (DWG) and feed efficien cy (FE) of 0-28 d, 29-56 d and 0-60 d, as well as the time consumption and rumination for 24 h and carcass characteristics. A completely ran domized experimental design was used in 2x2 factorial arrangement.  The DFI, ADG and FE for stage 0-56 and 29-56 d showed no difference (p≤0.05), but they were greater (p≤0.01) in treatments WOA/WON and WA/WON. The time consumption increased (p≤0.05) in animals fed antibody and/or NuPro alone or both. Without affecting (p≥0.05) rumination time and chewing. The weight and performance of hot and cold carcass were equal (p≤0.05). The DFI was higher in the control (WOA/WN) and lambs that had antibodies diet (WA/WON), reflecting in the GDP; without affecting the FE during the first 28 d. There was no effect in the same variables of the treatments 29-56 0-56 d. The time consumption increased in lambs fed with the diets containing IgY and NuPro.
